Easter bread
Below you will find a recipe for a delicious, traditional Easter bread (paasstol).
Ingredients:

For the bundt cake:
- 500 grams flour
- 20 grams yeast
- 75 grams sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla sugar
- 150 ml milk
- 100 grams butter
- 2 eggs
- 150 grams raisins
- 50 grams chopped almonds
- 50 grams candied peel
For the icing
- 100 g powdered sugar
- 1/2 tbsp water
- 1/2 tbsp lemon juice
Preparation:
- Place the flour in a large bowl and make a well in the center. Sprinkle the yeast into the well and add a little sugar. Pour in the milk and mix well.
- Add the remaining sugar, salt, vanilla sugar, butter, and eggs. Knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough with a clean cloth and let it rise in a warm place until it has doubled in volume (approximately 1 hour).
- Knead the dough again briefly.
- Add the raisins, chopped almonds, and candied peel, and knead the dough again until all ingredients are well combined.
- Cover the dough again and let it rise for another 30 minutes in a warm place.
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
- Knead the dough again and distribute it into the spiral mold.
- Bake the bread in the oven for 30-40 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool. It is best to remove it from the spiral mold only once it has cooled down sufficiently.
- Let the bread cool further.
- Meanwhile, the icing can be made. Stir the powdered sugar with the water and lemon juice into a thick paste. Without food coloring, it will be a white icing.
-
Now apply the icing to the cooled Easter bread.
And voilà, a delicious Easter bread to serve during Easter brunch or to share with family and friends during the Easter holidays!
